DomainKeys Identified Mail, or DKIM, is a system for checking the authenticity of an email by using an e-signature. When DKIM is activated for a specific domain name, a public key is published to the global Domain Name System and a private one is kept on the mail server. When a new message is sent, a signature is issued using the private key and when the email message is received, the signature is authenticated by the incoming POP3/IMAP mail server using the public key. In this way, the receiver can easily discern if the message is genuine or if the sender’s address has been spoofed. A discrepancy will occur if the content of the email message has been changed in the meantime as well, so DKIM can also be used to make sure that the sent and the received emails are identical and that nothing has been added or removed. This authentication system will boost your email safety, as you can verify the authenticity of the important email messages that you receive and your associates can do the same with the email messages that you send them. Depending on the particular mail service provider’s policy, an email message that fails the check may be deleted or may reach the recipient’s inbox with a warning alert.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Cloud Website Hosting

The DomainKeys Identified Mail option is activated by default for all domain names that are hosted in a cloud website hosting account on our cloud website hosting platform, so you will not have to do anything on your end to turn it on. The only condition is that the particular domain name should be hosted in an account on our end using our NS and MX records, so that the email messages will go through our mail servers. The private key will be generated on the server and the TXT record, which includes the public key, will be published to the Domain Name System automatically, so you will not need to do anything manually on your end in order to enable this option. The DKIM email authentication system will enable you to send trustworthy e-mails, so if you’re sending offers or a newsletter to clients, for example, your email messages will always reach their target destination, while unsolicited third parties will not be able to spoof your email addresses.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Hosting

All necessary DomainKeys Identified Mail records will be created automatically by our cloud platform when you add a domain name as hosted in a semi-dedicated server account, so in case you choose to buy a semi-dedicated hosting plan, you will not need to set up anything to be able to take advantage of the email authentication system. The domain should use our name servers so that its DNS records can be managed by our company and provided that this precondition is met, a private encryption key will be generated on our email servers and a public key will be sent to the global DNS database by a special TXT record. All email addresses that you set up with the domain will be protected by DKIM, which will make it impossible for 3rd parties to forge any email address. Both you and your partners or customers can take advantage of this service, as it will guarantee a much higher protection level for your e-communication.
